Whoohoo! You’ve decided you want to go party in Florida, but you want to make sure it’s with frat boys and sorority girls, not grandma and grandpa. Time to check out Panama City Beach. Although there’s only 40,000 people living there year round, the place is a continual party for the months of March and April when too pale 20-somethings flock to the beach to show off their wares. In fact, a half-million students ‘head south’ during those eight weeks, filling up the 18,000 hotels rooms that are available in the area.

Panama City Beach is located on the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 100 miles SW of Florida’s capital, Tallahassee (remember the capital, there will be a test later. Spelling counts.) Because it’s located in the panhandle, heading to Panama City Beach cuts off hours of drive time. During the spring, the temps hit the 80s and the water’s a warm 70 degrees. Twenty seven miles of white sand are available for your pleasure. If you decided you need a day off from partying, Panama City is the second most popular dive area in the state. Grab your gear and go! If you don’t like going into deep water, stay on the boat and go deep sea fishing. Dare your friends they won’t see a fish as big as the one you catch. If you don’t see (or catch) anything, head to the Gulf World Marine Park or Zoo World to check out what you missed.

For day trips, luscious state parks and natural springs are an hour’s drive away. Check out Torreya State Park, known for its 150 foot bluffs rising above the Apalachicola River, and Wakulla Springs, which is home to one of the world’s largest and deepest freshwater springs. For a history lesson, head over to Apalachicola, a city with more than 200 historic residences. The town produces 90% of Florida’s oysters too. No, not Rocky Mountain Oysters. The water kind.

So, what are you waiting for? Round up your friends, plan your trip and get excited–you’re heading to the beach!!
